The jazz fusion pioneer in Montreux
Last year, the Montreux Jazz Festival and BMG launched a new joint album series: "The Montreux Years". It is dedicated to some of the world's greatest musicians and singers and their performances throughout the 55-year history of the jazz festival.
John McLaughlin was also a regular guest on stage. The album "John McLaughlin: The Montreux Years" brings together the highlights of six legendary concerts by the English guitarist, bandleader, composer and pioneer of fusion jazz.
This collection, compiled by John McLaughlin himself contains previously unreleased material from the private collection of festival co-founder Claude Nobs from shows with bands such as The Mahavishnu Orchestra, The One Truth Band, The Heart Of Things, Paco de Lucia, The Free Spirits and The 4th Dimension from 1978, 1984, 1987, 1995, 1998 and 2016.
The Montreux Years series celebrates Nobs' passion for the festival and his love for the music and the artists. Like all releases in the series, the recordings have been remastered for release. The Montreux Years" also includes new liner notes, unseen photos and annotations by John McLaughlin.
