Today’s generation of musicians, grown in an era of digital revolution, adjusts mistakes with unprecedented ease, manipulate the nature of sound and - like music consumers - listen to productions close to perfection. In this light, undertaking a traditional studio recording with a voluminous big band – just as once great legends did – provides an exceptionally -delicate challenge for each individual musician today. The personal strive for omnipresent perfection and the awareness of relentless transparency of natural recordings translate into a unique charm of originality. This holds true not only for musicians, but also for the recording engineer who is accountable for a vinyl’s distinctive live mix, since his operations will appear on the tape unfiltered, just as the natural sound of the musicians’ instruments.
While time restrictions on a vinyl and limitations of traditional tape recordings are things of the past, genuine esteem for the “master minds” of early records, who produced their musical voice without manipulation, has revived ever since.
In tribute thereof, as well as with sincere honour and pleasure, we chose to capture this concert live on vinyl. As you listen to an unfiltered live experience, we hope you enjoy the mixture of big band jazz “made in 2013” and “nostalgic” recording techniques just as much as we enjoyed devoting ourselves to originality.
