Hans Theessink & Terry Evans - the analog session vienna (UHQ CD)

Hans Theessink has been a part of my life for many decades now, and I am very grateful that we have stayed in touch all these years. I first met his duo partner, Terry Evans, through Hans—and it quickly became clear to me: these two are an absolute dream team of blues music.

When I started Horch House to reproduce analog tape recordings for music lovers, Hans helped me secure the licensing for some of his recordings. This laid the groundwork that ultimately motivated us to launch a joint project.

“Hans Theessink & Terry Evans – Analog Session Vienna” was recorded on September 7th, 2017, in Vienna and produced by a technical and recording team led by Christoph Stickel and Dietz Tinhof.

The setup included microphones from beyerdynamic, a Studer 961 mixing console, and two Studer A80 tape machines—the technical foundation of this extraordinary recording.

Christoph Stickel refined the master tape from the Studer A80 with his purely analog mastering to a level that still gives me goosebumps when I listen to it today.

The approximately 60 people in the audience at Supersense in Vienna were absolutely thrilled, and I’m sure they cherish the memory of that special evening just as much as I do. What I didn’t know at the time was that it would be my last meeting with Terry Evans. He passed away in January 2018. That makes this recording all the more precious today—as a musical legacy and a wonderful tribute to a great artist.
